The Importance of Time

A few days ago I was reading through one of my Chiropractic Philosophy textbooks and I was again reminded of the importance of TIME.  Of the 33 Chiropractic Principles, The Principle of Time is #6: “There is no process that does not require time…

For me, patience is not one of my virtues, so being reminded of this principle of time does not necessarily put a smile on my face.  In fact, I have to say I felt a little frustrated, why should I have to wait for what I want?!   Yet, this principle of time is so important in regards to our life and our health.

Don’t we always wish to have things done according to our time schedule?  When I want something done, I want it done now, not tomorrow, not a week from now, and certainly not months or a year from now.  Yet everything happens in perfect timing if we allow our lives to unfold as they should.  Even healing and restoration of health in our body takes time.

I tell practice members all of the time that dis-ease in your body and your symptoms did not occur over night.  Moving away from health and into dis-ease takes time.  It is a process.  In the same way, healing takes time.  If it took a while for your body to get into the shape it is now, why would we think we should feel better overnight?  Getting healthy, healing, is not a quick fix.

Unfortunately there is no magic pill that will restore your health over night.  When we make changes to improve our life and health, like exercising, eating whole foods, and getting Chiropractic adjustments, we can’t always expect to see changes over night, sometimes not even in a few months.  It is important to remember that all processes take time.  We need to love ourselves, treat our bodies right, and then have patience with ourselves and faith in our body’s ability to heal over time.

If you have embarked on a path towards better health, please don’t give up on yourself too soon.  Don’t get frustrated if you don’t see the results you were hoping for right away. Give yourself TIME to heal!
